PostSubject: Best Gaming Routers?   Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:51 am

I have a Belkin N1 router which puts my xbox on a strict NAT, I have changed the ports and put the xbox in the DMZ, but still Strict. sometimes after putting it in the DMZ it is open NAT but disconnects me from xbox live every 5 minutes or so. So if anyone has any suggestions about good routers or perhaps a fix for this.(BT Home Hub doesn't work) So let me know.

i used to have the same prob mate with wireless so after messing about and getting 2 routers and alot of messing about.
so i decided the only option was to plug the ethernet straight into my xbox but i had a distance problem.

i ended up buying 3x 10metre long coaxial cables that were £1.00 from pound shop and ran them through the house so i could have the router in the back room with me and plug it straight into the xbox and let the missus have the crappy wireless connection for the laptop. Very Happy

and its worked, the wires arent even noticeable.
i know this might not be an option for you if your living with your parents or what not!!!!
but if ya can do it get it done.

Have you tried portforwarding? That pulled my NAT up from Strict to Open for ages.
Also if you're going wireless, having your Xbox immediately next to your Router - it can mess up.
The wireless works really well from say half a meter from the router generally.
It gets a bunch of trouble trying to connect to something so close when it's emitting such a range.

These sound really simple and i'm probably an idiot for thinking you didn't try them Neutral
But if you didn't think of them - then hope it helps.

Oddly enough, since I got the new Xbox, my problems seemed to have vanished. My NAT is open, and has been since.

Since the wireless is built in it's probably a ton better than just the plug-in.
Glad to hear your problems are fixed Very Happy

i bought yesterday a new router. The belkin play max. It has the power of 2 n routers and lets you prioritise your bandwith to what you use whether it be hd video streaming. Online games or general web browsing. Amazingly simple to set up. It even comes with all the cables attached to the unit. Includes apps such as self healing, which if a problem with your connection occurs it will automaticly fix itself. Torrent genie, which when a external hdd is connected to the router it will continue to download files when your pc is off. So its a pretty decent piece of lit and is the best router i have bought to date
